[Action, Part One]

[It's been several days since the Kin'Corans have returned home -- several days in which Syre has been oddly at ease with herself.]

[Today, however, she feels... anxious. antsy, even.]

[The rush of recently arrived New Feathers make her want to go out and about, possibly get acquainted with some of the new faces. Of course, anyone she already knows is free to bump into her, as well!]

[Voice]

[Later in the evening, she sets up a feed for a little voice chat.]

Good evening, friends and New Feathers -- that is to say, anyone that has just recently arrived to our fine enclosure... My name is Syre Atries.

Rather than waste your time with a wordy introduction, I'd like to pose a question.

Are any of you interested in the sciences? Biology, specifically. I've been wanting to get back to my research as of late, and it's quite hard to hold a discussion when there are so few that enjoy it as much as I do...

[Then, later that night, Syre is going to be roaming about the plaza. More specifically, she's going to be people watching -- the few people that are out and about at this time of night will not be spared her studious, almost analytical gaze.]

[Those of you that notice her watching are free to question why she's staring at you like a scientist would study a lab rat, of course.]

I had been kind of busy for the past couple months, so I was only just getting back some of the samples Draco had destroyed from my lab. Fortunately, most were intact, but lost my carving of the fountain- and now there was a new paint job on it. Perfect.

I didn't think anybody was nearby, so I figured it was safe to kneel and chip off a small, unobtrusive and barely noticeable sliver of paint to slip into a bag with a labelled index card.

Except about halfway through the sliver-of-paint process, I noticed somebody else in the plaza.

Dammit. I tucked the small knife and the bag into my duster pocket and hurried to my feet.

Just think nice, non-shifty thoughts, Harry.

[...Well, if that wasn't the strangest thing Syre had ever seen...]

[She raises a hand in greeting, though she does not rise from her seat just yet.]

Relax. I'm not going to interrogate you for wanting to chip a little paint from a fountain... Strange though it may be.

[Action - Oh good.]

"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

Actually, given this place, she just might. I offered a friendly nod in response to the wave.

"Harry Dresden. Hope I at least made your night more interesting."

Syre Atries. [A faint smile tugs at her lips.] And yes, you most definitely have.

So, what is this unbelievable business of yours that requires sneaking about near fountains? [She chuckles softly.]

I considered it for a minute, then shrugged. Hiding it hadn't worked out well for me in the past, so...

"Magic. I'm a wizard."

A wizard, hm? Your magic must be quite different than what I've seen on my home world.

[And here she leans back, folding her hands upon her lap as though she were having a conversation about the weather.]

Actually, the need for collecting samples draws quite a comparison to my own alchemy.

Wait.

"Your own alchemy? You're an alchemist?"

I am indeed. It's something that a great many of my people can do. We've even built an academy towards teaching people the art.

[She pauses a beat, then adds:] Though I believe it differs greatly from the alchemy of other worlds.

[Action]

"That actually seems kind of standard. I talked to a few alchemists from different worlds when I was organizing my magic group. Where I'm from, it's mostly about willpower, concepts, and symbols, like a lot of other things."

I'm interested in all sciences, though I'll admit I find physics far more entertaining than biology.

Ah, physics. Certainly an interesting field of study. Not my cup of tea, unfortunately, but to each their own.

Oh, no, please ramble away! I find much enjoyment from hearing someone as eager as I am talk about their science of choice. [She laughs delightedly.]

Ah, very well then, Loki. I was unsure whether you would rather be addressed more formally -- I don't like to offend.

Is that so. Perhaps we ought to have a little party at some point, then, since it's not much of a physics session unless the walls end up covered in equations.

I try. After all, being in the service of a royal family for so long has its way of leaving its mark on you.

Hello Miss Atries. My name is Luke Skywalker, and I am interested in science. Though, biology isn't my specialty. I'm more familiar with mechanics, computers, and astrophysics. Though admittedly that does little good here.

I, ah... I'm not quite familiar with those subjects. My world is behind in terms of technology...

What sort of technology does your world possess?

The most advanced technology we've got in my home world are wood furnaces. ...though there are people working on steam-based engines, last I checked.

[Syre realized a long while ago that Selles is rather primitive compared to a great many others. It's something she hasn't quite gotten over, so pardon the faint hint of shame in her voice.]

What is the climate like, out of curiosity?

In my country, somewhat cold. The other nations have varying climates, though.

My world? It's called Selles.
