To all that I may have interacted with during this most recent of Shifts: let it be known that the name Ariadelle Estriet [--hatred creeps into her voice for that brief moment, dark and bitter--] is one that I prefer not to be addressed by.

I would not have my image sullied by taking on the name of a deserter.

[Much, much later that night, a series of quick notes show up. It seems Syre has mistaken her broadcast journal for the one she normally keeps research in.]

-- Energy expenditure in creation of all constructs 1.5 times normal. Care needed to avoid exhaustion.

-- Still unable to ~~give life to~~animate constructs for more than few seconds at a time. Related to power limits of enclosure(?).

-- Research required into alternate means of animating constructs. Must favor alchemic/magical practices; technological research too time-/resource-consuming.

-- Additional research required to grant construct minor magical/alchemic abilities; useful for construction of potential assistant(s).

Well, it's never been anything as complex as a golem, but I enchant a lot of my own equipment. I set up some pretty solid wards on my apartment, I enchanted my own staff and blasting rod, I made a bracelet to focus my shield, rings that store kinetic energy, a belt that heightens my senses, and a bulletproof, stabproof, mostly energy-proof jacket.

A blasting rod? A jacket with an armor-like enchantment?

I am familiar with the concept of it, but have never met someone who could do it. Is it challenging?

Time consuming, more than anything. For me, anyway- different wizards are good at different things, and it's kind of inherent. Anybody can get good at anything, but some things are easier than others.

So if you need any help, lemme know and I'll see what I can come up with.

I have a question.

Let us assume that I, miraculously, come across a way of finally creating my golem. Could you... enchant it so that it is damage resistant?

Could I? Sure. I don't know if it'd be a good idea, though.

Oh, are there repercussions to performing such a feat?

By itself, no. But if you're gonna bring a nigh-indestructible object to life and give it any sort of autonomy, it's not always a good idea to make it magic-proof too.

"Nigh-indestructible"?

Perhaps I should have clarified that my constructs are not entirely like the golems of old. This one would be [a pause in her writing, as though contemplating something]as susceptible to destruction as you or I.

... What would the construction material be?

Dirt, and the smallest sample of my blood.

It's how a good number of life-based feats work, at home.

Dirt? Well, I'll agree that doesn't sound terribly indestructible, but that would pose problems all its own.

And I'm familiar with using blood to power magic, it's pretty common where I'm from too.

Hell, most of my more complex spells started with a magic circle that I sealed with blood.

I'll trust your judgment on that, then. After all, you've more experience than I do in matters like this.

[After reading his last sentence, Syre's thoughts turn to earlier in the evening. She had been talking with Lupin about her alchemy, and the dark-haired man had known of the basis of some magical knowledge...]

Have you taught anyone in the village about magic circles at all?

Arsene Lupin, although I was going to bring that up at the next Magic Group. Magic anybody can perform is one of the things I really want to emphasise.

Lupin and I had a conversation of sorts, earlier this evening. I found it odd that he was able to grasp the basics of what I explained to him without prior knowledge of it...

He made off with my jacket, and I taught him about magic circles in return for him giving it back.

Well, that satisfies my curiosity.
