Alchemy, yes. The more traditional name for it was 'runic alchemy', in reference to the various symbols used in the array, but that fell out of favor a few years ago.

It is so common, in fact, that there is an academy dedicated to refining one's usage of it. It's where I learned, when I was but a girl.
